Bowed Acrylic

Acrylic, like wood, can occasionally bow during shipping due to climate changes. While we take steps to minimize this, it is not always preventable. Here’s what you need to know and how you can work with bowed acrylic sheets:

How to Handle Bowed Acrylic

If you receive acrylic that appears bowed, we recommend using hold-down pins or magnets on your laser bed to keep the material flat during the cutting or engraving process. This is a common practice for laser users, and we personally use hold-down pins and magnets daily, whether or not the material is bowed, as it ensures the sheet stays securely in place.

Acrylic Styles Prone to Bowing

Certain types of acrylic, like chunky glitter or compacted glitter sheets, are more likely to bow. This occurs due to the high density of embedded material during the casting process. While bowing in these styles is normal, it can still be effectively managed by following the methods above.

Product Disclaimer for Glitter Acrylic:

Cast acrylic with a high density of embedded material, such as chunky glitter, may have a tendency to warp slightly during the casting process. This is a natural part of the manufacturing process.

Storage Tips for Acrylic

To prevent bowing over time, always store your acrylic sheets flat rather than standing them upright. It's best to keep them in a climate-controlled environment to further prevent warping.
